I have completed my magazine photoshoot for my music magazine. Faye did really well and was lovely plus she was very easy to work with as managed to do all the poses I wanted easily, although her arms did get tired after a while as I needed to sort my lighting and the flowers out for the cover shot! I had a problem with getting the right facial expression on the shot of Faye screaming so I tried a number of different techniques. First of all I got her to scream and took some shots with her eyes open and some with them closed. After looking on the back of the camera I decided I like her expression best when her eyes were shut, so, this time I got her to shout her brother's name hoping it would make her look more angry. By shouting 'Edward' she was creating two different lip patterns. The 'ed' part made her look like she was screaming more and provoked the expression I wanted so I chose that one. I also had a problem with my second model. As I was running later than expected after doing all of Faye's hair and makeup Sophie who was my second model had to go home and I needed to get the photos taken early so I had time to edit them, and I didn't know when I was able to book my location for again. So, I changed my second model to Charlotte who was available and willing to be my model. Charlotte did well although I had a little trouble getting her to look angry/grumpy (not that Sophie did angry and grumpy well!) I had to shout some abuse at her, threaten to steal her shoes and get her imagine certain situations to provoke a response out of her. She does cute very well in front of the camera which wasn't helped by the pose I wanted her to do, but in the end I got her looking how I wanted.
I found this article in 'Event' magazine that helped me with getting this response out of both of my models.
